Founded in 1099, the Order of Malta is the oldest Catholic charitable organisation in the world. Its headquarters are in Rome and as a Sovereign Organisation, it sends Ambassadors throughout the world. It has observer status at the United Nations and attracts funding from national governments, the European Community and the United Nations. The bulk of the funding comes from private individuals and your help is much needed for the on-going work in the five charitable enterprises we focus on:-

The centre for refugees provides food and washing facilities for up to 150 people every day.
The Order responds with overseas aid to the most harrowing crises caused by war and natural disaster throughout the world. Recently the British Association has assisted in Bosnia, Croatia, Macedonia, Romania, Peru, Gujerat, Mozambique and El Salvador. We are also currently sponsoring Blessed Gerard's Aids Care Centre in Kwa Zulu and the Boka old peoples' home in Serbia. Our association works closely with the Emergency Corps of the Order of Malta (ECOM) in Brussels with finance, provisions and volunteer manpower.

A happy day out for disabled children with OMV helpers.
sponsored by the Venerable Order of St John. It has 56 care homes and 7 almshouses caring for some 2,500 older persons in residence and over 1,000 in day care.
Our many projects include pilgrimages to Lourdes and Walsingham and other respite care holidays with full medical support. In Central Scotland we provide the Order of Malta Dial-a-Journey minibus service for people with disabilities.

ECOM staff and equipment are ready to go wherever they are needed.
The Order's well-known hospital in St John's Wood, London, specialises in orthopaedic surgery and childbirth. The St. John's Hospice looks after all the needs of those who are terminally ill in a compassionate and Christian environment.
Organised and run by a lively group of young volunteers, aged 17 to 29, the OMV gives young people an opportunity to help those with disabilities through activity weekends, national and international holiday camps, pilgrimages and overseas aid projects.
